Facts about the Pain under Your Shoulder Blade
Shoulder pain is a common condition - particularly pain under your shoulder blades and can affect people in every walk of life at anytime. It is often seen in seniors due to aging making them more vulnerable to stress and/or weight placed on the shoulder joints.
Because the makeup of the shoulder joint is complex, and their various movements so diverse it can make the shoulder more prone to tears, strains and inflammation of its many parts – ligaments, muscles, and bursa (where bursitis begins); all of them involved in the composition of the joint itself. This and the four particular muscles are responsible for keeping the joint together and in working order when you move your arms.
Where the pain under your shoulder blade takes place plays an important role in the determination of your condition and it is always recommended that you see your physician if pain persists. This is particularly true as pain under the shoulder blade may be a signal there is something somewhere else in the body wrong-particularly involving an organ. For instance, pain under the left shoulder blade can mean there is a problem in the stomach or the chest. Pain under the right shoulder blade can be related to the gallbladder or can mean there is a gallstone. It can also signify a liver condition.
Another factor to consider with pain under your shoulder blade is weight management. Overweight people are more prone to pain under the shoulder blade much more than those not due to the weight being a burden in itself. Initiate a few dietary changes if this be the case by enlisting vitamins C and D and minerals such as calcium and phosphorus for they will help to strengthen the framework of the back, neck and shoulders. Eliminate fatty foods and add more lean proteins and complex carbohydrates to the diet as they will provide the raw materials needed for building muscles and the energy needed for the repairs-be they many or a few.
There are also alternative therapies that may help with regards to the pain under your shoulder blade. Yoga, of course and any of the other great stretching exercises that help revitalize the tired muscles and strengthen the back as well as increasing mobility and/or flexibility. Acupuncture can also help by relieving pressure points and providing relief for stress. Be sure to take frequent breaks while driving, working and/or at play.
Rest is another important area to consider when suffering pain under the shoulder blade. Accomplish this by lying flat on the floor (supine) or sitting up perfectly straight in a high back chair-head back, eyes closed. Take time to unwind. Slow down incorporating other simple activities known as range of motion exercises which involve a series of stretches, pulling and pushing the arms toward the chest and various flex and extend routines. Maintaining proper posture will help prevent overtaxing the muscles.
